Children often need extra help to grow and learn. We work with teachers, families, and the kids, to outline a support plan that gives individual children guidance and space to achieve. Children with a wide range of needs succeed in our program, including attention deficit disorder, autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, anxiety and emotional challenges.
Our full-time Behavioral Health Coordinators and part-time Inclusion Specialists work with kids in both small groups and individually, to understand their needs and create a nurturing environment. They provide training and support to our staff to ensure the best experience for each kid. Most importantly, our specialists partner with the child’s school and family, to build a team of support throughout the child’s life.
FKO uses a Positive Behavior Guidance (PBG) philosophy to generate a fun and welcoming environment, focused on preventing and reducing negative behavior. We start by setting rules and expectations with the kids. Throughout the day, our staff provides positive reinforcement and praise, along with logical consequences, when needed. We also incorporate mindfulness techniques such as reflection, mindfulness, and breathing, to give kids tools to reduce stress in their lives.
Our Behavioral Health Coordinators often design an Afterschool Support Plan (ASP) for children with unique needs. The ASP, which is shared with FKO educators, communicates the child’s strengths, challenges, and required accommodations. Each site also has a Take a Break kit designed by our specialists, with sensory tools and calming strategies to help overwhelmed kids learn to manage their emotions.

In addition to accepting EEC vouchers, FKO also offers financial assistance to families.
