On Thursday, September 17th, FKO was informed by a parent in one of our Winthrop programs that their child had tested positive for COVID-19. Being our first child-COVID case since re-opening programs on July 6th, we feel an obligation to transparently relay our process for handling a confirmed case. •Upon hearing of this confirmed case, FKO immediately notified the Department of Early Education and Care, and requested an immediate meeting with the local Board of Health for their assessment of potential impact and recommended guidance. This meeting and assessment occurred within an hour following FKO being notified. •Phone calls were made immediately to all families and staff that were determined to be a close contact to the positive case, and would be able to return to FKO after 14 days. These contacts were also encouraged to get tested. •An e-mail was sent to all FKO Winthrop families informing them of the positive case, next steps and contact information for questions or concerns. •On Friday, September 18th, FKO closed the affected program site to perform a deep cleaning of all classrooms and used spaces. •All children and staff who were not determined to be a close contact to the positive case were able to return on Monday, September 21st. Today marks the 14th day since being notified about this positive case, and we are happy to report that as a result of the due diligence of this fast-acting parent, the local board of health, the FKO staff and the effected FKO families, there was no further spread of COVID-19 within this program.
