Yet again, children, families and communities are hurting in the aftermath of the horrific shooting in Buffalo, New York. This violence is made even more painful by the disgusting, racist ideas in the manifesto of the perpetrator who made clear his intent was specifically to target Black people. The abhorrently heinous and inexcusable actions he took have caused enormous suffering for the families and friends of the victims and all of us who find his fear, ignorance and hate all too common.

FKO Embarks on Work with Strategy Matters

FKO is pleased to announce the engagement of Strategy Matters, LLC, a Boston-based consulting group to guide our ongoing organizational work on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). The Strategy Matters team will use their expertise as they lead FKO’s Board and staff through a series of organizational assessments, stakeholder conversations, and goal setting to build shared language, expectations, and readiness to dive more deeply into DEI work. DEI work cannot be completed quickly or with ease, but this expert consultation is an important step forward. We look forward to learning how to be effective agents for change and growth in DEI. Today was a great day to honor the accomplishments of FKO’s Full-Time Group Leaders! We are six months into our first year of piloting FKO’s Full-Time Group Leader Apprenticeship program, BASE (Building the Abilities and Skillsets of OST Educators), and we have so much gratitude for each of the Full-Time Group Leaders. We are already seeing positive changes within the program sites due to the dedication of these staff members and their mentors! Thank you, Full-Time Group Leaders!

Thank you, Macy’s Inc. for recently awarding FKO a $10,000.00 grant to support our Count Me In! initiative. With Count Me In!, we work with teachers, families, and the child to outline a support plan that gives individual guidance and space to achieve. This funding will allow for more Inclusion Specialists within programs, providing children extra help to learn, love and grow. Funders like Macy’s make a huge difference in the work we do every day. Earth Day Clean Up with the City of Everett!

FKO was proud to be among hundreds of members of the Everett community to come together to celebrate Earth Day at Rivergreen Park and Everett’s waterfront! We worked together to improve the wetlands, clear trash/debris, remove invasive plant species, spread wildflowers, mulch, build bird and bee houses and more!

It’s #AfterschoolProfessionalsAppreciationWeek, and we kicked it off with a delicious brunch at Chelsea Station Restaurant Bar & Lounge and an inspirational talk from Speaker jamele adams. jamele is dedicated to inspiring others to “be L. I. T.” He believes that with “love – inclusion – trust” no one will be left out, and our ability to come together amongst different beliefs is limitless! We couldn’t agree with his message more!

EEC Commissioner Vists FKO Chelsea!

We would like to extend our gratitude to EEC Commissioner Amy Kershaw for visiting FKO Chelsea yesterday afternoon. Commissioner Kershaw had the opportunity to witness the transformative power of our partnership with Chelsea Public Schools. The visit included a program tour, interactive sessions with students, and engaging conversations with FKO leadership, Chelsea Public School administrators and state legislators. Thank you, Massachusetts Department of Early Education & Care, Superintendent Almi Abeyta, Deputy Superintendent Adam Deleidi, Director of Expanded Learning Malik Howshan, and State Senator Sal DiDomenico, for joining us and for your daily support for children!
