Program Information
This
school-based program includes children in grades K-8.
The program
partners closely with the school to maintain a strong focus on
academic enrichment. Through a Massachusetts Department of
Education grant, this site works with a school faculty liaison
to promote strong linkages and communications between the
program and the school and it receives technical assistance in
the areas of behavior management, homework strategies, math and
health promotion. This program is piloting
a youth volunteer model
that engages older youth and gives them roles in leading
structured learning and social activities for elementary school
youth. FKO is seeking funding to formalize this model with
expanded training, support and leadership roles for older youth
within the after-school program, which will help build life
skills and contribute to their own academic success.
Through
funding received from a competitive Mass Department of Early
Education grant, FKO is working on quality improvements and
enhancements as determined by the National Afterschool
Association Accreditation process. This grant provides external
consultants for training and TA, and helps
us move through the
Accreditation process.
